Your year-end tax check

Answer a few questions. Your estimate updates as you type. Round numbers are fine.

1

Who is this for?*

Partnerships and S corporations usually do not pay federal income tax themselves. The owners do. Enter your own share below.

2

This year, 2026

* Required. Fields turn green when filled.

Payroll details, if different from wages

For mixed guaranteed-payment/ordinary-profit income, have a tax professional determine the QBI-related half-SE and retirement deductions. Enter their combined amount below.

Business income deduction details

One qualified U.S. business only, ordinary income, no QBI loss carryforwards, REIT/PTP income, aggregation or cooperative deductions. Above the threshold, confirm business type and enter wages/property, including 0 where appropriate.

3

Family and retirement optional

Additional child credit: 3 or more qualifying children

If the payroll-tax method gives a higher credit, enter the actual Form W-2 payroll-tax amount and required adjustments. Blank means 0, not an estimate.

Pre-tax retirement contributions

Pre-tax only. Roth contributions are taxed now, so they do not change this estimate.

Check that you have set up the plan and that it allows these amounts before you rely on them. Roth rollovers and conversions are not part of this estimate.

4

Last year, 2025

Owing under $1,000 last year is good news, but this year gets its own test. See your result.

Check the estimate scope

This is not a full tax return. It uses the base standard deduction and ordinary-income rates. It does not calculate qualified capital gains/dividends, itemized deductions, age/blindness or senior/tip/overtime/car-loan/charitable deductions, AMT, NIIT, multiple-business loss/basis limits, tax on distributions/dividends from a C corporation, Social Security benefits, or special farm/fishing/nonresident rules. Other credits must already be checked. Community-property MFS allocations need professional review. For C corporations this is only a 21% ordinary taxable-income estimate; no NOL/carryforward, corporate AMT, foreign-tax or special-credit calculations. Owner personal tax is separate.

Knowing is step one. Lowering it is step two.

Use your estimate to prepare for a planning conversation. We do not receive your calculator figures. If you want advice for your situation, book a call and share the details you choose.

Federal estimate only. This tool does not estimate state or local income tax.

How the IRS payment target works

The IRS payment target is the amount the IRS expects you to have paid in by year end to avoid an underpayment penalty. It is about avoiding penalties, not your final tax bill. Annual totals alone do not confirm that required payments were made on time.

$1k

Small balance

Individuals generally avoid the penalty if tax owed after subtracting withholding is under $1,000. Estimated payments do not count for this test. For corporations the line is $500.

90%

Pay 90% of this year

Withholding and estimated payments that add up to 90% of this year's tax.

100%

Match last year

Pay 100% of the tax on last year's return, if last year covered 12 months.

110%

Higher earners

Use 110% of last year's tax if your adjusted gross income was over $150,000 ($75,000 if married filing separately).

Optional future tool: Roth conversion

Not included in this calculator. Roth conversions, rollovers and mega-backdoor strategies need separate checks. No additional calculator is available here yet.
