Year-end is close

What will April cost?

What you owe in April and what the IRS expects you to pay in by year end are not the same number. See both in one free year-end federal estimate, with a summary to keep.

1

Who is this for?*

Partnerships and S corporations usually do not pay federal income tax themselves. The owners do. Enter your own share below.

Family and retirement optional

Pre-tax retirement contributions

Pre-tax only. Roth contributions are taxed now, so they do not change this estimate.

Check that you have set up the plan and that it allows these amounts before you rely on them. Roth rollovers and conversions are not part of this estimate.

4

Last year, 2025

Owing under $1,000 last year is good news, but this year gets its own test. See your result.

Knowing is step one. Lowering it is step two.

Most people only learn they owe when it is too late to do anything. After your check, I can send you tax planning ideas that fit your situation, while there is still time in the year.

How the IRS payment target works

The IRS payment target is the amount the IRS expects you to have paid in by year end to avoid an underpayment penalty. It is about avoiding penalties, not your final tax bill. Annual totals alone do not confirm that required payments were made on time.

$1k

Small balance

Individuals generally avoid the penalty if tax owed after subtracting withholding is under $1,000. Estimated payments do not count for this test. For corporations the line is $500.

90%

Pay 90% of this year

Withholding and estimated payments that add up to 90% of this year's tax.

100%

Match last year

Pay 100% of the tax on last year's return, if last year covered 12 months.

110%

Higher earners

Use 110% of last year's tax if your adjusted gross income was over $150,000 ($75,000 if married filing separately).

Thinking about a Roth rollover or conversion?

This check covers pre-tax contributions only. Roth rollovers and conversions need their own calculator. We will email you ours, free.
